1. The description of the Dewatering Bags 

 

The KTP Dewatering Bags filters water on a job site to remove sediment and  other pollution or waste effectively and economically. These filtering bags are made from a robust non-woven geotextile fabric that is needle-punched to allow only water to flow back out while retaining fine soils and particles. Its high filtering qualities make them perfect for pumping trenches, dredging areas, construction sites, ponds, lakes and for dewatering in municipalities or plants. Available in Standard, Heavy Duty and Contractor options. The Dewatering Bags/Silt Bag/Sediment Filter Bag is an effective and aggressive tool in your efforts to meet environmental legislation.


The Dewatering Bags/Silt Bag/Sediment Filter Bag has a fabric flange that will accept a hose up to 6" in diameter. A ring clamp is included with each bag for quick and easy installation at your site. The Dewatering Bags is sewn with high strength thread and a " J" seam configuration, providing proven durability and reliability in the field. It is available in any size by custom order, or you may choose our standard size bag. Once fully drained, The Dewatering Bags and it's contents can be disposed of as a solid waste, an economical alternative to waste water or sludge disposal. The contents of the Dewatering Bags can also be returned to the soil on your site, eliminating waste disposal costs altogether. 

 

Use for dewatering operations with large quantities of silt, sediment, or dirt. Bags can be emptied and reused repeatedly.

Discharge Hose & Stormwater Runoff

Each sediment filter bag is designed to handle a discharge hose that is up to 6" in diameter. While bags will feature a hose inlet, you can also place the hose by making a small incision in the fabric. Once the hose is in place, clamp the fabric to the hose via wire, ties, clamps, ropes or similar seals.

 

Filtered Water Run off 

Guide runoff from the bag into the nearest inlet. Take care to avoid causing any erosion.

 

Other Considerations

These dewatering sediment bags are rugged, but not indestructible. Be careful to properly monitor performance to ensure that pump rates or concentrations of sediment are not excessive. Failure to do so may cause the filter bag to fail. Avoid multiple pipe discharges into a single bag. One bag per discharge is recommended unless specifically designed.

 

Filtering Materials

Using our dewatering filter bag in conjuction with a flocculent or polymer for finer clay and organic media will definitely improve flow rates, discharge clarity and percentage of solids retained.

 

**Traditionally settlement methods (such as straw bale structures or settlement ponds/tanks) are often ineffective, rely on slow water movement, long settlement times, expensive and time consuming tank maintenance and large works areas.

**Dewatering Bags are an efficient, practical, quick, simple and cost effective alternative solution to manage this ongoing environmental problem of removing suspended solid pollutants from pumped water on construction sites.

**Sediment-laden water is simply pumped into the high quality filter bags, which trap the solids inside and allow filtered water to flow freely out through the geotextile fabric to disperse into the surrounding ground or another collection point.

**Dewatering Bags can also be used for gravity feed applications such as outfall pipes from site drainage or lagoons.

**The silt filter bags provide a passive non-mechanical solution, without the use of excessive or specialist machinery (other than possible lifting equipment when full), and do not require a large work area.

**The dewatering bags are also light, compact and easy to store, with minimal cleaning up required - when full just dispose of the bag and replace with another bag.

**The Dewatering Bags detain Sediment, Oil & Waste, offering a combination of benefits not available in alternative products. They can also be used to contain contaminated sediment whilst treatments are applied (such as flocculants or absorbents).
